Bomb squad disposes of device in Yorkville

Yorkville Police evacuated homes in and around the 1100 block of Homestead Drive in the Heartland Subdivision Monday evening as the Kane County Bomb Squad safely removed and then disposed of a suspicious device.

Police said the device was discovered by a juvenile on the south side of the city near Whitekirk Lane and Callander Trail. The juvenile then brought the device home.

Police said they received a call of a possible explosive device on Homestead Drive at 6:16 p.m.

Police said they evacuated the surrounding homes and immediately secured the area where the device was found.

Upon arrival, the bomb squad took control of the device and it was "subsequently disposed of properly."

Residents reported hearing a loud explosion between 9:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m.
