Sandwich girls track wins frosh/soph Interstate Eight championship

The Sandwich girls track and field team took second place at the frosh/soph Interstate Eight Conference championship on April 26 at Seneca.

The host Irish scored 216 points while the Indians finished with 138 points behind six first-place finishes. The 400-meter relay team of Megan Etheridge, Sarah Ness, Ezbeydy Rivera and Maddie Dawson clocked in at 54.72 seconds. Kayla Schiera won the 3,200 (11:55), the 800 (2:31) and 1,600 (5:36).

Sarah Ness won the 100-meter hurdles (17.62) and took second in the 300 hurdles (55.0) while Dawson won the 400 (1:03) and second in the 200 (27.96). Rivera was second in the triple jump (31-3 1/4).

The 800-meter relay team of Etheridge, Taylor Pavia, Nicole Launius and Rivera took second (2:02.93) and the 3,200-meter relay of Maddy Leggett, Cheyann Mitchell, Danniela Estrada and Londen Valencia finished second in 12:00.6. The 1,600-meter relay team placed third behind the efforts of Isabel Schultz, Schiera, Mitchell and Leggett, clocking in at 4:46.24.
