New pediatric optometrist joins Brenart Eye Clinic in Yorkville

August is Vision and Learning Month, and Brenart Eye Clinic in Yorkville is celebrating back to school in new ways.

One of the most important steps parents can take in the back-to-school months is to schedule their child for a comprehensive eye exam.

Brenart Eye Clinic recently announced its new pediatric optometrist. Dr. Tonya Tira, OD, FAAO, offers functional eye exams that are crucial in the early detection of vision problems which may impact a child’s ability to succeed in school.

“Dr. Tira is dedicated in helping children who struggle with learning-related vision problems that can go undetected by typical school vision screenings,” said a news release from the eye clinic.

In addition to early detection of vision problems, another important step before your child starts the school year is to give them a baseline test for concussion. Brenart Eye Clinic now includes King-Devick concussion baseline testing for children ages 8 to 18 during their annual eye exam. The King-Devick Test in Association with Mayo Clinic is a reliable, accurate, and easily administered test that can help identify a possible concussion in student athletes. The King-Devick screening test being used not only in school but professional sports as well.

As a “Back to School” special, the clinic will be offering free baseline testing for students ages 8 to 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 15 and Aug. 16. Parents who are interested in getting their child’s baseline score can call 630-553-6166 to reserve a time slot.
