A Montgomery Village Board member pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct related to an argument he had with a neighbor about fireworks last summer.

Kendall County State's Attorney Eric Weis said Stephen Jungermann pleaded guilty and received a sentence of six months of court supervision, 30 hours of public service work, a $750 fine, and has to pay a $12 per month fee for the court supervision. Jungermann pleaded guilty to one of the three charges filed against him related to a juvenile that was a victim in the case; the other two charges were dropped, Weis said.

Weis also said Jungermann had to apologize to the juvenile victim.

"The family was very happy," Weis said. "It was an unfortunate situation that occurred. They were very happy with the outcome. It was an unfortunate circumstance for that to happen and there were ways that this could have been prevented. Based on the facts and circumstances, if he believed that there was something wrong going on, he should have just called the police and let them handle it as opposed to handling it himself."

Montgomery police arrested Jungermann, a resident of the 2100 block of Emma Court, Aug. 23, in connection with an incident that occurred in the 2100 block of Kathleen Court on Aug. 15.

Police said they were dispatched to Kathleen Court at approximately 11 p.m. on Aug. 15 after Jungermann called them to report hearing fireworks in the area.

Upon arrival, police said they could not locate any evidence of fireworks and no one could positively identify the suspects who allegedly lit off the fireworks. After further investigation, police said they determined that a verbal altercation had occurred before and during their investigation.

According to a complaint filed in court by one of the victims, Jungermann drove to the Kathleen Court residence after 10:30 p.m. and yelled, "So you are the (expletive) blowing off fireworks at people's (expletive) houses" along with "other profanities at (victim's) juvenile son and his friends, refusing to leave and provoking a breach of peace."

Jungermann has lived in Montgomery since 2007. He was appointed to the Montgomery Plan Commission/ZBA in 2009, re-appointed to a second term in 2013, and elected commission chairman February of that year. He was elected to a four-year term as village trustee in April of 2013.
