"Spoon River" Feb. 24, 25 in Oswego: The Oswegoland Park District’s Limelight Theater Company will present "Spoon River," at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 and 25 at the Little White School Museum (72 Polk Street). Edgar Lee Masters’ collection of epitaph poems forms the basis of this ghostly group of monologues and short scenes, as the residents of Spoon River speak from beyond the grave about life, death, love, hate and their shared humanity. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students/seniors. All seats are general admission and tickets can be purchased online or at the door. Morris Theatre Guild presenting "Harvey": The Morris Theatre Guild Inc. will present Mary Chase's "Harvey," sponsored in part by the Morris Lions Club. "Harvey" continues on Feb. 17, 18, and closes on Feb. 19. IVT will present “Don't Hug Me”: Indian Valley Theatre will present “Don’t Hug Me” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25, and at 2 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Sandwich Opera House, 140 E. Auditions for "Sex Please, We're Sixty" March 5 in Morris: The Morris Theatre Guild Inc. will hold open auditions for its spring production of Michael and Susan Parker's comedy, "Sex Please, We're Sixty." Auditions will be held on Sunday, March 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Morris Theatre Guild, located at 516 W. Illinois Ave. (Canalport Community Center) in Morris. Auditions will take the form of cold readings, therefore, no special preparations are necessary. You need not be a member of the Morris Theatre Guild to audition. Two adult males (preferred age range of 60s to 70s) and four adult females (preferred age range of 50s to 60s) are needed. "Sex Please, We're Sixty" opens on Friday, April 28, at the Morris Theatre Guild. Additional performances will be held April 29-30 and May 5-7. Morris Theatre Guild seeks script proposals: The Morris Theatre Guild Inc., a not-for-profit community theater, is looking for script proposals for its 2017-18 season. There are slots for four main stage shows (fall, winter, spring and summer). Visit and fill out the director proposal form. Send the director proposal form and a copy of the script to Morris Theatre Guild Inc., 516 W. Illinois Ave., Morris, IL 60450. All scripts and proposals must be submitted to the Morris Theatre Guild by March 31.


Fox Valley Philharmonic Orchestra's “Children’s Concert” Feb. 19: At 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, the Fox Valley Philharmonic orchestra, directed by James Yarbrough, will offer its perennially popular, free admission “Children's Concert.” This year the concert will be both entertaining and educational, focusing on “What Makes Music ‘Musical’ Depends on Your Brain” as manifested in the brain’s experience of pitch, meter and tone color. Some of the music performed will include Leroy Anderson’s “Waltzing Around the Scale,” Rodger & Hammerstein’s “Do-Re-Mi” from "The Sound of Music," the soundtrack music from the movie “2001: A Space Odyssey,” and some of the best-known Strauss waltzes & polkas. Admission to the concert is free, but donations are solicited. The Philharmonic orchestra’s sixth annual Children’s Concert will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, located at 420 W. Downer Place in Aurora. Yellow House Artists present "Art Matters”: Yellow House Artists present their winter show, “Art Matters,” from Feb. 17 through March 25 at Fine Line Creative Arts Center, 37W570 Bolcum Road, St. Charles. The artists’ reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17. It will provide opportunity to meet participating artists while enjoying the exhibit of paintings by 24 Yellow House Artists members. Geneva replica Norwegian Viking ship sets April-October tours: The Viking, a replica Norwegian Viking longship displayed at Good Templar Park, 528 East Side Drive in Geneva, will host public tours on 10 days during 2017. Traditional visit days include the third Saturday of each month from April through October. Extra visit days include June 24-25 in observance of Swedish Days. Visit days are scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. on April 15, May 20, June 18, June 24-25, July 8, July 15, Aug. 19, Sept. 16 and Oct. 21. Guided group tours begin every 30 minutes. Self-guided viewing is also available. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for teens. Parking is free.

Oswego History: You’ll find plenty of local history at Oswego’s Little White School Museum at 72 Polk St. (Jackson at Polk), just two blocks from historic downtown Oswego. Regular museum hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Museum admission is free. Festivals and special events

Kumla Feast Feb. 25: The Kumla Feast will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Norway Community Building in Norway (3676 E. 2603rd Road, Sheridan). Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children younger than 10 for all-you-can-eat homemade Kumla and ham. Purchase tickets at the door.

Spring craft fair March 18: The Oswego Senior Center will host a craft fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18. The Oswego Senior Center is located at 156 E. Washington St., Oswego. The fair will be held in the gymnasium, dining room, library and hallways. Admission is free. There will be door prizes and raffles. For more information, call 630-554-5602.
