The 2017 Lisbon Street reconstruction project, from Green to Main streets, has an estimated cost of $570,000, according to Director of Public Works/City Engineer Tom Horak.
Horak reported at a recent meeting of the Sandwich City Council’s Committee-of-the-Whole that there are plans for replacing the sanitary sewer pipes, water main pipes and hydrants when working on the street and sidewalks.
A change from parallel to angled parking and moving the sidewalk closer to Willow Crest Nursing Pavilion on the south side of Lisbon Street is expected to allow more parking spaces for the facility.
According to Horak, the owners of Willow Crest have indicated they’ll give the land for the sidewalk to the city and have offered to pay for the sidewalk and its installation. There are also some improvements planned for the north side of Lisbon Street.
In order to prepare for future improvements east on Sixth Street, Horak told of doing lots of work on the Main Street intersection to avoid tearing it up again.
Most of the engineering is done, he explained, and the project will be ready for the bidding process soon.
