Why are you seeking a seat on the School District 308 Board of Education?
I’m not afraid of challenges, and I would like to serve my community by helping to make reasonable, practical decisions that serve students, their parents and other residents of our district.
What differentiates you from the other candidates running for board seats?
I am the only candidate that knows the district as an employee and have seen how it works under different circumstances. I have seen the amazing work done by so many of the staff members to give our students their best. I intend to do everything possible to make sure their contributions are honored and that students continue to receive top quality caring and education.
If elected, what would be your top priority as a board member?
We have financial problems in our district. This need to be vigorously addressed at the state and local level. We need to have a plan to get the financial situation on the right track and stick to it. The community is counting on us to thoroughly and carefully review contracts, bidding and expenditures. I am committed to not cutting where it would diminish a high quality experience for the students and I am determined to increase all that a district can do for free to improve quality.
School District 308 is facing a growing budget deficit. What actions would you support as a board member to eliminate the deficit?
You have to find ways to save money. We need to keep pressure on the state and look at possibilities within our parameters. In addition, the board would have to examine carefully which staff salaries give us the most value for helping students and sort out those which do not impact students as much and are unnecessary or overpaid.
Would you support a property tax hike referendum to reduce the deficit and to provide additional funding for District 308?
No, it is not possible to keep raising taxes and maintain the attractiveness of our community.
