John Etheredge: Our website is better and so is our subscription service

We’ve heard the complaints about our website at KendallCountyNow.com and other news websites over the years, and in many cases we’ve shared them.

Like you, we’re tired of ads that take over the entire screen until you can find the little box to tap or click so they’ll disappear. We’ve been aggravated by advertising video that plays automatically. We’re sick of websites so weighed down with add-ons that they seem to take forever to load.

We, too, see the irony of being an organization committed to “real news” but including links to “click-bait” stories about fad diets and C-list celebrity gossip under stories. We know you come to our site to read the news, not answer survey questions.

So starting now, we’re getting rid of that stuff. In the weeks ahead, visitors to KendallCountyNow.com are going to start to see continuous improvements to our website. It will be cleaner, faster, and provide a far better reading experience.

Our print subscribers can also expect to see a better e-edition.

In addition, there will be several new benefits that come with membership in Shaw Media’s subscription service that we hope you will enjoy.

Starting next month, subscribers will receive The Neighborhood Tourist, a premium local glossy magazine featuring all the best things to see and do in and around our area. You will receive up to four Neighborhood Tourist magazines a year with your membership.

In conjunction with these improvements, we’re revising our subscription plan. Subscribers should receive a letter explaining these changes soon. If you haven’t received it within the next week or so, please call our customer service hotline at 800-397-9397.

Our goal is to be the leading source of local news and information in Kendall County and Sandwich, and to provide readers with the information they want and need in print and online.
