Center Street lighting bids were announced at a recent Sandwich City Council meeting by Director of Public Works/City Engineer Tom Horak.

The lowest bid submitted was $137,640 from Elmund and Nelson Co. of Elgin. The three other bids ranged from $140,485 up to $174,150.

City engineers earlier estimated the cost at just over $157,000.

The streetlight bids cover items such as sidewalk removal and replacement, electrical service installation, underground conduit, aerial cable in conduit, and 16 decorative light standards similar to those around the restored Sandwich City Hall.

Horak also reported that the city crew is picking up brush starting this month, along city streets on the same schedule as last year.

City employees will pick up brush Mondays using the following schedule: the first week of each month in the 1st Ward, the second week of each month in the 2nd Ward, the third week of each month in the 3rd Ward and the fourth week of the month in the 4th Ward.
