Residents, businesses can sponsor Healing Field flags

In conjunction with the Vietnam Moving Wall arriving in Oswego this summer, residents may order Healing Field flags that will fly on the grounds over the five-day event.

The flags that are available for purchase will fly in remembrance of a veteran, honoring a current serviceman or simply serve as a way of saying thank you to the military for protecting our freedoms.

The flags are $40 each and include a 3-by-5-foot American flag, an 8-foot pole, mounting attachments and a personalized honor tag. Flags will fly from June 28 to July 3 at the event and will be available for pickup from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 4.

Small business sponsorships are available for $500, which includes five flags and company name on banner; corporate sponsorships include 10 flags and company name on banner.

Proceeds from the sale of the flags will go to the Fox Valley Veterans Breakfast Club, an organization which supports local veterans.

“These flags honor the brave service of our men and women of the military,” said Rudy Keller, coordinator of the Healing Field. “When you drive down Plainfield Road this summer and see 2017 flags flying in the breeze, it will bring a chill to your spine. It is impressive.”

Hundreds of flags were on display in a Healing Field on the grounds of West Aurora High School in November 2013 when the Vietnam Moving Wall was last on display in the Fox Valley area.

The Vietnam Moving Wall will be located at Prairie Point Park in Oswego at the corner of Plainfield and Wooley Roads. It will be open continuously from Thursday, June 29, through Monday, July 3. It is a collaborative effort between the village of Oswego, Oswegoland Park District, School District 308, Oswego Chamber of Commerce and the Fox Valley Veterans Breakfast Club.
