Letter: Oh, to be a fly on the wall

To the Editor:

Oh, to have been a fly in the Oval Office last Wednesday. Our president was entertaining the Russian foreign minister and the Russian ambassador to the United States. Do you think they had interpreters in the room, or were they only speaking in Russian?

What could have been discussed? Maybe they were talking about the return of Alaska to Russia. It’s common knowledge that Russia has regretted Alaska’s sale to the United States just after the end of our Civil War. Or maybe the Russians were asking how much closer they can come to our Navy ships and fighter aircraft when they feel like buzzing us. What’s the closest they can buzz without us retaliating with some of our own buzzing?

Perhaps they were inquiring if they can safely drill for oil and natural gas within our territorial waters. One can never have too much fossil fuel, especially since our EPA has reduced our clean air and clean water regulations.

Maybe the Russians are thinking about a luxurious tower and golf course in the Crimea on the Black Sea coast. They have so much open acreage now from their land grab from the Ukraine.

We’ll never know, but we can say a good time was had by all. There was a lot of laughter, smiling faces, not to forget all the strong handshakes. And to think all this took place just a short time after FBI Director Comey was fired.
