Sandwich dentist will buy back Halloween candy to support troops

The Waters Dental Group of Sandwich is hosting its ninth annual Halloween candy buyback program, Save a Tooth, Treat a Troop.

Dr. John Waters, Dr. Kara Flynn, and the Waters Dental Group Staff are putting their money where their mouths are, because they know the damaging effects of too much candy on anyone’s teeth. In leading this anti-decay movement, kids can still have all of the fun of trick-or-treating, but also have the opportunity to share with the troops and grow their piggy banks. In addition to the cash, each child will receive a flashing toothbrush kit.

Visit the Waters Dental Group at 420 E. Church St. in Sandwich from 3 to 6 p.m. Nov. 6, and Dr. Waters and Dr. Flynn will pay $1 per pound of unopened candy, up to $5 maximum.

All candy, including chocolate, will be shipped to the troops with the help of Operation Care Package in Manhattan. Oral hygiene care items will also be donated to help the troops take care of their mouths while they enjoy their treats.

Everyone is also invited to stay and color a picture or write a note to include inside the care packages. No time to stop by on the day of the event? Drop off donations during regular business hours any time after Halloween until Nov. 9.
