It’s been a joke, a saying of local teens for many, many years when they’d combine the names of neighboring towns along U.S. 34.
Lots of them would say they lived west of Aurora in Plano or Sandwich. But it came out as “Plain Old Bologna Sandwich.”
Now the mayors of Plano and Sandwich are considering a joint celebration on Oct. 24, International Bologna Day. Perhaps they’ll get together to introduce a town between their cities and call it Bologna.
That’s what Mayor Rick Olson said at a recent Sandwich City Council meeting. He’s even hoping T-shirts with logos honoring the Town of Bologna are ready for purchase and that fried bologna sandwiches are available, too.
In other matters, the council discussed joining the DeKalb County Convention and Visitors Bureau, rather than keeping its membership with the Aurora Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. Also discussed was perhaps applying for a grant from the DeKalb County Community Foundation to help fund city planning.
Hired by the council was Shante Humble as an interim financial clerk, assisting with accounting for two weeks in the city clerk’s office. She worked in that office in a similar capacity earlier. Her pay will be $34 an hour.
