The daily walk home from school for a first grader in Montgomery this fall has become more than just a walk.
Jaclyn Martin said she and her son, Lincoln Niedorowski, a first grader, noticed a large amount of garbage while walking home together from Lakewood Creek Elementary School one day.
"I asked my son if he wanted to pick up garbage and make the walk a little more beautiful. He said 'sure', so we began to take a bag and gloves and on our way home we would pick up the garbage," Martin said.
After only a few weeks they had collected a large bag of gargabe, including empty water bottles, pop cans, soda cups, fast food bags, plastic garbage bars, pizza boxes and more, according to Martin.
As they picked up the trash, Martin said some drivers would show support for their efforts by giving them a "thumbs up" or yelling "Thanks for your help."
Martin said she and Lincoln are hopeful that their efforts will inspire others to also pick-up trash when they see it.
