Aurora police arrested a Montgomery resident, Ruben Garza, 50, of the 1000 block of Wellman Avenue, on a charge of driving under the influence Nov. 10 after an officer stopped him while driving a John Deere D110 lawn tractor in the street in the 1100 block of Lebanon Avenue on the city’s near east side.
Police said Garza has also been charged with driving a vehicle without registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Police said an officer responded to the area of Fifth Street and Ashland Avenue at approximately 3:40 p.m. on a report of a man driving a lawn tractor in the road. A witness told officers that the man appeared to be intoxicated, looked to be falling asleep and, at one point, had parked the tractor and urinated in a yard in the 400 block of Ashland Avenue. Police said the witness told the officer that once the man got back on the tractor he yelled at people as he drove.
When the officer located Garza on Lebanon Avenue, he became belligerent and indicated he did not believe he could be charged with DUI while driving a lawn tractor, police said. Garza then began to swear at the officer and threaten him, according to police.
He was transported to the police station and the tractor was impounded. Police said Garza has a Dec. 4 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles.
