To the Editor:
Congratulations U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren, R-Plano, for your Forum letter “Manufacturing is key” Oct. 26. I would imagine that the thousands of workers who lost their jobs because of Fox Valley factory closures would agree with you.
When Dennis Hastert served as U.S. representative, he had a similar thought as he praised the creation of jobs. At that time, I wrote Mr. Hastert to ask him, where were the jobs which would replace those lost with the closure of AllSteel, AT&T, Barber Greene, Thor Power Tool, Vendo? I still await Dennis Hastert’s answer.
Now, I present you with this question. Where are the jobs to replace those lost with the closure of AllSteel, AT&T, Barber Greene, Thor Power Tool, Vendo? And, U.S. Rep. Hultgren, perhaps you could add some additional company closings to the list. Or do we not include Caterpillar?
Rep. Hultgren, I do question your thought about giving “manufacturers a tax credit for hiring apprenticeship employees.” It seems to me that if manufacturers were interested in growing their business and being more competitive, they would be doing so on their own initiative. Why would they need us to give them a tax credit?
