Roundup: Yorkville girls cross country takes 18th at Nike Nationals

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Yorkville: The Foxes took 18th place at the Nike Cross Nationals on Dec. 2 in Portland, Ore. Emily Eberhart was Yorkville's top finisher, taking 100th in 19:23.6. Alyssa Edwards (105th, 19:30.6) and Helena Kleronomos (106th, 19:31.4) were right behind.

Other Yorkville finishers included Hailey Simmons (142nd, 19:59.1), Sara Klemm (148th, 20:05.8), Nicole Greyer (163rd, 20:22.9) and Sam Moreno (180th, 20:44.9)

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Newark: Meggie Scott had 12 points, seven assists and five steals for the Norsemen (9-1, 3-0 Little Ten) in a 38-19 win over Indian Creek. Madi Malone and Brooke Kala each added eight points and Jocelyn Mitchell had seven rebounds. Mitchell had 17 points and seven rebounds and Scott a triple-double, 13 points, 17 assists and 15 steals in a 62-17 win over Kirkland Hiawatha on Nov. 30.

Yorkville sophomores: Dana Malinowki scored 16 points and Lexi Sandon had 12 rebounds for the Foxes (6-1) in a 40-28 win over Plano on Dec. 2. Lexi Meyer scored 17 points and Lexi Sandon had 13 rebounds in Yorkville's 47-38 win over Kaneland on Nov. 30. Malinowski scored 14 points in a 50-28 win over West Aurora.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Yorville Christian: Mekhi Lunford scored 13 points, while Colton Schutt and Christian Sovern each added 11 in a 54-43 win over Hinckley-Big Rock on Dec. 5. Sovern hit six 3-pointers and scored 18 points and Noah Lewis added 14 points in a 59-56 loss to Wilmington on Nov. 30.

Parkview Christian: Jake Angelo had 22 points and nine rebounds and Stephen Brennwald 16 points and nine rebounds for Parkview in an 81-59 loss to Aurora Christian. Parkview (3-5) also beat Cornerstone Christian 59-41 and Westlake Christian 75-54, and lost to Kankakee Trinity 78-66.

Yorkville sophomores: The Foxes (3-3) lost to Plano 26-25. Jack Fisher scored nine points in a 43-40 win over Kaneland.

WRESTLING

Yorkville: The Foxes lost to Minooka 36-30 on Dec. 2. Joe Roberts, Zach Katula, Nick Stemmet, Brady Fisher, Keenan Ness, Cole Ferguson and Tyler Peach picked up wins. Roberts, Tyler Toney, Zatula, Ben Stemmet, Nick Stemmet and Ness won matches in a 37-28 loss to Andrew. Yorkville beat Rock Island 57-15 with wins from Kerigan McKenna, Joe Bass, Roberts, Toney, Katula, Manny Cervantes, Ben Stemmet, Nick Stemmet, Fisher, Jacob Simmons and Ferguson.

The Foxes lost to DeKalb 34-21 on Nov. 30. Fisher, Ness, Ferguson, Roberts and Cervantes won matches for Yorkville. Fisher took first place, Nick Stemmet second and Roberts third for Yorkville, third in the team standings, at the Barrington Invite.

BOYS BOWLING

Yorkville: The Foxes lost to Sycamore 3,601-3,369. Caden Fairless (640) and Jackson Nance (603) led Yorkville. Yorkville beat Rochelle 3,658-3,065. Michael Nape Jr. (733), Dante Gashi (690) and Fairless (632) had the high series.
