Should they cut educational programs? Sports? What about increasing the student parking fees at Oswego High and Oswego East High School? Reduce the number of teachers or administrators? School District 308 officials want to hear from you--the public--on ways they can cut spending to offset a deficit budget.
The district has established a "Budget Reduction Suggestion Box" on the district's website at sd308.org/budgetreduction.
Those posting suggestions need not list their names or email addresses, according to the website.
The district's board of education has set a goal of trimming the budget by $8 million to $10 million and is scheduled to resume discussions on potential budget cuts during their next meeting on Monday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. in the community room at Oswego East High School. The meeting--like all board meetings--is open to the public.
The board is expected to spend the next several weeks considering the budget cuts with a goal of voting on a final budget reduction plan during a meeting set for Jan. 29.
