'Shop with a Cop'

The Oswego Police Department, Meijer of Oswego and School District 308 came together to recently to spread some holiday cheer this season. Oswego police officers took Oswego area youths shopping in the police department’s inaugural “Shop with a Cop” program. Organizers worked with the school district to identify children in the district that would benefit most from the participation. A total of 18 SD308 children were invited to participate in the first Shop with a Cop program that occurred at the Meijer in Oswego on Thursday, Dec. 21. Each child was partnered with a police officer and given a $100 gift card, provided by Meijer, to purchase gifts for themselves and family members. The children also had an opportunity to participate in making holiday crafts with police officers, volunteers and family members while their presents were being wrapped. This was a great opportunity to foster positive relationships between youths and officers. The event allowed Oswego Police, Meijer and SD308 to give a little something back to a community that has been so very supportive of them.
