Kendall County 4-H youth plan annual Bowl-A-Thon

Group seeks donations for event to support local Meals on Wheels program

The Kendall County 4-H Teen Federation is planning its 18th annual Bowl-A-Thon, which will be raising funds for Meals on Wheels serving Kendall County.

“The 4-H Federation is a group of 16 teenaged 4-H youth from throughout the county who together plan, organize and execute this annual community service event,” said 4-H Program Coordinator Kim Eisnaugle. “This year, the members chose to support our local Meals on Wheels program that provides home meal delivery to eligible senior citizens and people with disabilities.”

“This 4-H donation will go towards helping to fund meals for seniors and keep the program running smoothly,” said Louise Maritato, nutrition director for the Community Nutrition Network and Senior Services Association. “With the high cost of medication and insurance bills, many participants are unable to afford any kind of a donation towards their Meals on Wheels delivery.”

4-H Federation youth are seeking donations to support the cause, as well as event donations of appropriate small gift items for nearly 100 participating 4-H members bowling in the fundraiser. The group also is accepting top prizes for the high-game and greatest fundraiser awards. Donations will be collected through Feb. 12, and this year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 24, at Idle Hour Lanes by Pinheadz in Sandwich.

Each year, Kendall County 4-H’ers have raised thousands of dollars for various charitable causes, including Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Kendall County Food Pantry, and Heifer International. The group also leads learning events for younger 4-H members and various service projects throughout the year, but the annual Bowl-A-Thon is its largest project.

If you would like to donate to the 2018 event, contact your local 4-H Federation member or the Kendall County office at 630-553-5823.

If you are a 4-H member and want to participate, visit web.extension.illinois.edu/dkk/kendall4h for registration forms.
