2018-19 Parker's Playtime Preschool registration: Registration for the Yorkville Parks and Recreation Department's Parker's Playtime Preschool for the 2018-19 school year begins on Monday, Jan. 8. Morning and afternoon sessions are available for both three-year-old and four-year-old classes. An open house is also scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Parker's Playtime Preschool located at 201 W. Hydraulic Ave., Yorkville. Riverfront Park ice skating rink: The Yorkville Parks Department has started the process of filling the ice skating rink at Riverfront Park, 131 E. Hydraulic Ave., Yorkville. Once frozen, the rink will be open seven days a week from dawn to 10 p.m. through Feb. 15, weather permitting. Mother and Sons Strikes of Fun: Mothers and sons will have a blast bowling, eating, and competing during Mother and Sons Strikes of Fun. This event will be held on Sunday, Jan. 28 at Yorkville Bowl, 1211 N. Bridge St., Yorkville. The cost is $17 per person and includes shoe rental, two games of bowling, popcorn, drinks, a slice of pizza and prizes. Pre-registration is required and everyone attending must register. New STEM class--Let’s Build It: The Yorkville Parks and Recreation Department is offering aspiring engineers a chance to dive into an exhilarating, cutting-edge area of electronic engineering. During this six week course children ages 6 to 12 will be guided through core concepts of electrical engineering, and introduced to circuits and electrical components. No previous experience is necessary. Let’s Build It will be held on Mondays from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Van Emmon Activity Center, 102 E. Van Emmon Rd., Yorkville, beginning Feb. 5 and concluding March 12. This course costs $109 for residents and $114 for non-residents.
