The Board of Education of Sandwich School District 430 recently approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Somonauk school district that allows Sandwich students to attend Somonauk’s agriculture program.
Sandwich Superintendent Rick Schmitt said, “There are 19 Sandwich students attending courses in Somonauk that include Agriculture Mechanics & Technology, Animal & Plant Science, Introduction to Agriculture & Leadership and Veterinary Science.”
Curriculum proposals approved for the next school year at Sandwich High School included having Project Lead The Way (STEM) courses count toward a science credit, and adding Advanced Placement Honors Biology I, AP Physics I, AP English Literature, Arts, Crafts and Cultures and Studio Fitness to the curriculum. Also approved was modifying the choir offerings.
Parent advisory committee members were approved to review the school district’s handbook for the 2018-19 term.
Members for the high school are Tom Sodaro, Micky Herzog (chairman) and Tim Gipe for administration, with Cheri Nestor as parent representative, Danniela Estrada as student representative and Chad Hicks and Vida Martin as teacher representatives. For Sandwich Middle School, it’s BJ Richardson and Andy Heilemeier for administration, with Sara Sullivan as parent rep, Maggie Knepper as student rep and Selynda Kern as teacher rep.
Other members of the advisory committees are: H.E. Dummer School, with Lynette Ford for administration, Katie Shimp as teacher rep and Heather Lissman as parent rep; Haskin School, with Dawn Greenacre for administration, Lori Kellogg as parent rep and Alison Mlot as teacher rep; Prairie View School, with Sherrie Stricklin for administration, Brenda O’Neil as parent rep and Yvonne Kedzierski as teacher rep; and Woodbury School, with Jennifer Kern for administration, Mandy Denny as parent rep and Caitlin Riley as teacher rep.
