Oswego police arrested a Boulder Hill man Jan. 10 after police said officers caught him with burglary tools and property taken from a vehicle.

Oswego police arrested Cody J. Kiernan, 20, of the 0-100 block of Sonora Drive, on charges of felony motor vehicle burglary and felony possession of burglary tools.

In addition to the burglary charges, Kiernan was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance for being in possession of a Schedule IV medication without a prescription.áThe Drug Enforcement Administration defines Schedule IV drugs as those “with a low potential for abuse and low risk of dependence,” giving examples such as Xanax, Soma, Darvon, Darvocet, Valium, Ativan, Talwin, Ambien and Tramadol.

Police said officers on routine patrol at around 3 a.m. Jan. 10 in the 400 block of Matena Drive saw a vehicle with its door ajar and interior light on. Police said officers then saw Kiernan nearby carrying multiple bags, talked to him and discovered that he was in possession of burglary tools.

Upon further investigation, police said officers found that Kiernan had property belonging to the owner of the vehicle with its door ajar. Police said Kiernan allegedly entered the vehicle and took the items.

Kiernan had an initial court date scheduled on Friday, Jan. 12, at the Kendall County Courthouse in Yorkville.
