The Charles B. Phillips Library has announced the following upcoming programs. The library is located at 6 N. Jackson Street in Newark.
The Underground Railroad: In honor of Black History month, Terrance Lynch will be portraying the owner of a “Safe House” in Illinois on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m. Hear how a safe house was used as a stopping point for slaves to gain rest and nourishment before going on to safety in Canada. Several safe houses in the Chicagoland area will be highlighted. Open to the public.
Storytime: Storytime is celebrating the season of love at the Charles B. Phillips Library. Dance, sing, listen to stories, and create a different theme craft on Monday, Feb. 12 and 19 at 10 a.m. Registration required.
Friday Matinee: Warm up at the library and enjoy the movie Victoria & Abdul on Friday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. Based on a true story of the unlikely friendship between Queen Victoria and a young Indian clerk named Abdul Karim. Refreshments and popcorn will be provided.
