Roundup: Newark girls basketball advances to regional final

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Newark: Meggie Scott had 15 points, 10 assists and six steals for the Norsemen, who beat Mooseheart 66-20 in the Class 1A Aurora Christian Regional semifinal on Feb. 6. Newark (21-6) advances to play Aurora Christian Feb. 9.

Alyssa Gittins had 11 points, five steals and six rebounds, Riane Tomsa 10 points, five steals and 11 rebounds and Evie Martin 10 points for Newark.

Yorkville varsity: The Foxes bounced back from a loss to Ottawa to beat Morris 56-32 on Feb. 2. Lauren Daffenberg scored 25 points to lead the way. Claudia Grunwald added 10, Lily Guerra eight and Olivia Ross seven.

Daffenberg scored 16 points and Grunwald added seven for Yorkville in a 43-29 loss to Ottawa on Jan. 30.

Yorkville sophomores: Dana Malinowski scored 19 points and had five assists and four steals to lead the Foxes (18-5, 11-1) past Morris 54-18 on Feb. 2. Lexi Sandon added 11 rebounds, Lexi Meyer nine points and Ellie Maaske six points for Yorkville.

The Foxes beat Ottawa 34-30 on Jan. 30. Halle Jones had 13 points and six steals, Lexi Sandon seven points and 10 rebounds and Malinowski and Ava Hanson each dished out four assists.

GIRLS BOWLING

Yorkville: The Foxes bowled a 6,361 to take second at the Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference meet on Feb. 1. Katie Orisek and Allison Nape took second and fifth, respectively, to earn all-conference honors.

Yorkville lost to Morris 3,143-3,017 in a dual meet on Jan. 30. Orisek's 681 series led the way.
