Oswego senior Allen Swanson (top) won the 160-pound championship at last Saturday's Class 3A East Moline Regional, leading the Panthers' sectional qualifiers to this weekend's meet in Alton.

Allen Swanson and Gannon Hughes took their first steps toward a medal stand.

The two Oswego seniors, returning state qualifiers, both won regional championship at the Class 3A East Moline Regional this past Saturday.

They’ll be joined by runner-up Sam Saravia at this weekend’s sectional meet in Alton.

At 160 pounds, Swanson (38-3) pinned Moline’s D.J. Parker, Rock Island’s Jaiden VanCoillie and then Plainfield South’s Erik Santiago in the final.

At 145, Hughes (39-2) pinned Normal West’s Kolton Howard, won a 16-7 major decision over Moline’s Grant Ohlsen and then won a 15-3 major decision over Yorkville’s Joe Roberts in the final.

Saravia (28-13) pinned Normal Community’s Anderson Ryan and won a 5-3 decision over Michael Myers of Rock Island before dropping a 7-4 decision to Minooka’s Zach McDowell in the final.

Oswego’s Cole Pradel (152) and Geno Lukowski (195) both placed fourth and are sectional alternates. The top three wrestlers advance to sectionals.

Minooka, with 200 points, was the team champion. Oswego (90) was fifth.

At Joliet Central’s Regional, Oswego East advanced three wrestlers. Jackson O’Reilly and Nico Patch took second and Austin Holpuch took third.
