Letters to the Editor

Letter: Where are the facts?

To the Editor:

The Farren editorship often featured opinion articles which contained facts and figures supporting her conclusions.

The current management is less willing to take and support less parochial positions.

Some time ago, the Record approved of Yorkville obtaining an extra $150,000 or so from the state for new residents at $150 each in return for commissioning a $50,000 census. Firstly, this robs Peter to pay Paul; secondly, it costs local taxpayers $50,000. Finally, to what use was this ill-gotten gain put? Maybe we don’t want to know.

Similarly, the Record praised the decision of the Kendall County Commissioners to back a grant request by a solar power company that would save the county $162,000 per year in electricity costs.

The action was rushed through to meet a grant application deadline. The size of the grant was not mentioned. The county must provide 7.4 acres.

The solar power must deprive ComEd of overhead in excess of $100,000, to be apportioned on the rest of ComEd customers. Solar is heavily subsidized, of debatable environmental benefit and should be limited to desert climes, not our snow belt. Why an uncritical editorial supporting opinion?

Please feel free to call upon the undersigned for aid in drafting future editorial opinions.
