U.S. Representatives Randy Hultgren (IL-14) and Peter Roskam (IL-06) invite all students, parents, teachers and school officials from the 14th and 6th Congressional Districts who are interested in learning more about our nation’s service academies to attend Service Academy Day on Saturday, April 21, from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Charles East High School. St. Charles East High School is located at 1020 Dunham Road in St. Charles.
“It is a distinct honor when our students are selected to our nation’s top service academies, and I’ve been thrilled a number of our community’s students have been chosen in past years,” said Rep. Hultgren. “If a student desires to pursue this distinguished education and vocation, it is important they start the process early in their middle and high school careers. Service Academy Day provides interested families with essential information as they consider serving our country through military service.”
Presentations will be given by representatives from each academy – West Point, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, Coast Guard Academy and the Merchant Marines Academy – along with an overview of how to apply. Each student and parent will have an opportunity to ask questions of academy representatives.
Also discussed will be the Congressional nomination process that is required for each applicant. More information on the nomination process is available on Rep. Hultgren’s website hultgren.house.gov/serving-you/service-academy-nominations/service-academy-nominations-faq.
For rising seniors, each Academy offers summer seminars about life at the Academy. Visit the particular Academy’s website for more information and application deadlines.
An appointment to a U.S. service academy requires at least a five-year service obligation upon graduation (nine years total including at the Service Academy). Selections are evaluated on character, scholarship, leadership and physical aptitude.
