A current assistant principal in the Troy School District will lead Plank Junior High School for the 2018-19 school year.
The SD308 Board of Education has approved the appointment of Tyler S. Haymond to take over as principal of the Oswego junior high effective July 1, after the pending retirement of current principal James Martin.
In announcing the appointment in a statement, Shannon Lueders, director of junior high education for the district, noted Haymond's prior experience as an assistant principal and his training and certification in special education, and suggested he will provide "a clear continuity of leadership for Plank's continued success."
Haymond has a bachelor degree in education with an emphasis in special education from Illinois State University and a master's degree in school administration from Concordia University. He also received his endorsement for director of special education from the University of St. Francis.
"I am honored to be a part of the Oswego School District 308 team," Haymond said. "I am looking forward to meeting the staff, students and parents of Plank Junior High School and building partnerships for a strong school community.
Haymond will host an informal reception to meet students, parents, and staff on Tuesday, April 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Plank cafeteria.
