The new incoming fire chief of the Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District now has an employment contract.
The fire district’s board of trustees approved the three-year contract, including a salary of $133,000, for James Bateman of Yorkville on Thursday evening, April 12.
The contract is good from May 1 of this year until April 30, 2021.
Fire Chief Mike Hitzemann, who is retiring at the end of April, currently makes $141,149.76 annually, according to Hitzemann. Hitzemann said he was not under an employment contract during his tenure; Hitzemann was hired in 1986 .
Bateman's salary could be increased in the next two years, according to the contract, but the agreement does not state a specific amount.
In the contract, it states that Bateman is waiving his current and future right to the district's pension plan. Instead, it states that the district will contribute nine percent of his salary annually into a deferred compensation plan.
As fire chief, Bateman will receive 25 vacation days per year and accumulate sick leave hours, according to the contract.
