To the Editor:
I once lived in Iowa. There was an old bridge across the Cedar River, much like the old Millbrook bridge. A local restaurant was allowed to put tables on it, weddings were performed on it, it was an attraction, revenue was generated. John Purcell is generously offering $400,000 of hard earned taxpayers money to help preserve the Millbrook bridge. To what end? So the bustling Millbrook downtown will benefit? I seriously question the $1 million plus estimate to demolish the old structure. I once worked in the demolition industry, steel bridges like this were sometimes demolished for very cheap, since the scrap iron was sold by the contractor.
Leave the piers, the Fox isn't a navigable waterway except for canoes. Our county board is mostly Republican. I thought us lefty liberal Democrats are always being accused of playing fast and loose with tax dollars. Tax bills are coming out soon and isn't there an election coming up soon?
