The Tri-County Kiwanis welcomed Boy Scout Alex Barber to a past meeting in order to present information about his upcoming Eagle Scout project. Barber, a Somonauk resident, is a member of Troop 71 in Plano.

His project is to build a swing set for handicapped children at Haskin Elementary School in Sandwich. It will be a single-post dual-bay swing set. It will be built so that both a handicapped and non-handicapped child can use it. This playground also is used as a neighborhood park, so even on non-school days the community will be able to take advantage of the swing set.

Barber said he believes that every child should have the joy of swinging regardless of their limitations. He has the approval of the school administration and manpower lined up. All he needs is funding for the project. The budget is $2,180. He is currently halfway to his goal.

To contribute to the project, call Haskin School at 815-786-8812 or email Barber at barkeralexander26@gmail.com.
