Oswego High School Dean of Students Melissa Calvert was appointed to the position of assistant principal for students services at OHS for the current school year by the Board of Education during its meeting on Monday Aug. 20.
Director of High School Education Jamie Max said, "Calvert's knowledge of the climate and culture of the building, as well as the varied duties and responsibilities she has overseen as the dean of students will make her an exceptional assistant principal for student services."
Calvert was appointed to replace Gregory Baker, whose resignation went into effect on Aug. 7, and was approved by the board at the Aug. 20 meeting. As assistant principal, Calvert will earn a base salary of $80,500, prorated for an Aug. 21 start date.
Calvert has served as dean of students at OHS since 2014, after teaching Spanish at OHS from 2011 until 2014. She started her teaching career in 2009 as a Spanish teacher in the Plainfield School District.
Calvert has a master of education degree in educational leadership from the University of Illinois; bachelor of arts in foreign language education from Illinois State University; and a bachelor of science degree in biological sciences from Illinois State University.
