Yorkville Public Library programs

Adult Programs for Jan. 2019

Threads and More Group: Tuesday, Jan. 8 10 a.m. Meets the first Tuesday of each month 
from 10 a.m. to noon in The Michelle Pfister Meeting Room of the library. This group is a combination of people who like to knit, crochet, quilt, sew, or needlepoint. No registration needed. Just bring your unfinished project to work on during the meeting. This is a great time to meet fellow “threaders” for a creativity blast.

Lunch Bunch Book Club: Wednesday, Jan. 9, noon. This group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at noon in the Michelle Pfister Meeting Room of the Library. You are welcome to bring in your lunch during this meeting.  This month the group will be discussing The Women in the Castle by Jessica Shattuck.

Friends of the Library Meeting: Monday, Jan. 14, 10 a.m. The Friends of the Yorkville Public Library is a non-profit group committed to supporting and promoting the Library. Join them for their next meeting.

Men’s Book Club: Thursday, Jan. 17, 7 p.m. The Men’s book club meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. for a lively thought provoking discussion. A wide array of book choices and discussions will keep you excited and energized about reading. You’ll be introduced to fascinating books across all genres, learn about new authors, and meet people from your community. Newcomers are always welcome. American Fire by Monica Hesse will be discussed. No registration is required.

Creative Writing Group: Tuesday, Jan. 22, 7 p.m. Whether you are looking to write the next thriller, your biography, a short story, or even develop your professional writing skills, this program may be for you. This group is for all people who are passionate about words. Its intent is to create a positive, encouraging, honest, and fun atmosphere that will support and motivate each other to achieve excellence in writing. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month. No registration is required.

Mini-Golf in the Library: Sunday, Jan. 27, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come play 18 decorated holes of mini-golf during the cold of winter. Fun for all ages. Featuring the 19th Hole with activities: Lego corner, craft table, book corner, refreshment table with cookies and beverages. There will be a “People’s Choice Award” for best decorations and many gift basket raffles. Tickets for Mini Golf are $5 per person. Raffle items will be displayed the first week in January. Raffle tickets will be $1 each or 6 for $5.

Music performance by Tom Sharpe, from Mannheim Steamroller: Thursday, Jan. 31, 7 p.m. Tom Sharpe is the drummer for the Grammy Award winning group Mannheim Steamroller. He is an internationally recognized, critically acclaimed composer, and the creator of his own world music ensemble, Sharpe World Music. His high energy, passion, emotion and superb musicality leave audiences amazed and inspired. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and registration is required.
