BREAKING: Aurora man arrested in Montgomery Rosati's shooting

An Aurora man has been arrested in connection with the Jan. 6 shooting of two patrons at the Rosati’s Pizza restaurant in the 2000 block of Orchard Road in Montgomery, according to village police.

Police identified the suspect as Josua C. Matias, 21, of Aurora.

Agents for the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended Matias in St. Charles on Jan. 16. Matias had been wanted on a Kendall County warrant, secured by village police.

Police said the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Matias with aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge with a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and armed habitual criminal.

Police said officers were summoned to the Rosati’s restaurant at 10:32 p.m. Jan. 6 on a report of a fight involving weapons and a possible gunshot victim. Upon arriving, officers were told that an argument had taken place inside the restaurant and an unidentified individual pulled out a gun and shot two individuals. Police said both of the individuals were later treated and released from an area hospital.

On Jan. 7, Montgomery Village President Matt Brolley announced that Rosati’s liquor license had been suspended for 10 days.

In a statement, Montgomery police said they would like to thank the following law enforcement partners who assisted in this investigation: Kendall County Major Crimes Task Force, Kendall County Cooperative Police Assistance Team, Aurora Police Department Special Operations Group, Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, Kendall County State’s Attorney Office, Oswego Police Department, Yorkville Police Department and the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.
