Listed below are the items approved by the Oswego School District 308 Board of Education at its meeting on Monday, Feb. 11, as the district continues its attempts to offset a predicted multi-million dollar budget deficit. The items approved total $1,329,781. The dollar amount listed next to each item is either the anticipated revenue, or the value of the cut or reduction.
Leasing of athletic activity vans - $46,400
Operations and Maintenance reductions related to contract service visits, the elimination of select service agreements, and increased participation in energy demand response opportunity - $183,468
Shift in the management and issuance of district cell phones - $50,000
Reduce district and building-level budgets - $200,000
Restructure district finance department - $52,413
Hire a Director of Development to secure additional revenues - $150,000
Discontinue offering paid transportation as an option to students participating in the district's Early Childhood Tuition Paid Program; Increase Early Childhood Tuition program fees from $320 to $400 per month to cover costs of personnel - $150,000
Transportation at Thompson Junior High School and Traughber Junior High School boundary grandfathering expires - $276,800
Phased-in increase of high school parking permit fees from current $50 per semester to $75 per semester in the 2019-20 school year, to $100 per semester in the 2020-21 school year - $64,700 (Projected first year revenue)
Establish a course fee for high school evening courses ($225 per semester per course) for those students taking an evening course in addition to seven courses during the school day - $45,000
Reduction in the number of available days for administration vacation buy back - $111,000
