Baseball: Oswego, Oswego East get two wins in first week

Oswego

Codey Quirin went 3-for-3 with four runs batted in, Luke Menard 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI and Jack Lemke scored three runs and drove in two for the Panthers in a 10-9 win over Benet on Tuesday. Cal Hejza went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs for Oswego (2-2), which scored a run in the fifth to break a 9-9 tie.

JD Miller was 2-for-2 with a run scored and RBI in Oswego's 11-2 loss to Joliet Catholic on Friday. Menard was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs and Garry Maynard 2-for-4 with two runs scored in a 14-13 loss to O'Fallon on Thursday. Hejza was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Lemke 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI in a 14-5 season-opening win over Mt. Vernon.

Oswego East

The Wolves went 2-1 in a season-opening trip to Edwardsville. Collin Witzke got the win and Adam Dowler was strong in relief in a 14-7 win over Normal West. Tyler Heidkamp struck out seven over four innings, allowing zero baserunners, in a 3-2 win over Galesburg. Lockport beat the Wolves 2-1.
