ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP – The 21-year-old son of the Campton Hills woman killed with a baseball bat was charged with two counts of second degree murder in her death May 13, police and prosecutors confirmed.

Campton Hills Deputy Chief Randy Johnson said Thomas W. Summerwill surrendered himself after making arrangements with the Kane County State’s Attorney and his attorney.

Thomas Summerwill is currently being held in the Kane County jail awaiting bond call Tuesday morning, officials said.

“There is no motive at this point,” Johnson said, referring all other questions to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Officials said the State’s Attorney’s Office will have a statement available after Tuesday’s bond call.

Mary Bridget Summerwill, 53, was killed March 24.

Police were called to the house in the 40W600 block of Willowbrook Drive, Campton Hills in answer to a report of an injured woman. She was transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva where she later died.

Mary Bridget Summerwill most likely died of injuries from a baseball bat attack, Kane County Coroner Rob Russell had confirmed last month.

The Kane County Major Crimes Task Force had been assisting the Campton Hills Police Department on the investigation. The homicide was the first one in Campton Hills since it was incorporated in 2007.
