The Charles B. Phillips Library has announced the following upcoming programs. The library is at 6 N. Jackson St. in Newark.
Summer Reading at Charles B. Phillips Library: Stop by the Charles B. Phillips Library and sign up for the It’s Showtime at your Library summer reading program. The reading program is open to all ages. Earn prizes as you read this summer! Throughout the summer, the library will be bursting with fun youth activities including movies, crafts, story time, painting for toddlers, activities, and special presentations. Adult programs include, Tuesday Morning Book Chats, Friday Matinees, Hand & Foot Canasta, and special programs featuring Jim Gibbons and Leslie Goddard.
Northern Illinois Raptor Rehab & Education: Joins us at the library for a family fun flying event on Thursday, June 13 at 2 p.m. The Northern Illinois Raptor Rehab & Education will promote conservation awareness through an interactive program. Must have a ticket in order to attend program. Free tickets are available to be pick up at the Charles B. Phillips Library.
Charisma and Character: The Life of Cary Grant: Historian Jim Gibbons will be at the library on Thursday, June 20 at 6:30 p.m. presenting "Charisma & Charm: The Life of Cary Grant." Gibbons will discuss Grant’s unstable childhood, his years attending boarding schools, his early years in vaudeville troops and his pursuit of fame and acting. Gibbons will explain how Grant achieved fame in many of his romantic comedies and Alfred Hitchcock films. Open to the public.
Adult Matinee: Join us for an afternoon matinee featuring "The Upside" on Friday, June 21 at 1 p.m. A story about the relationship between a man with a criminal record hired to help a wealthy quadriplegia man. Popcorn and refreshments will be provided.
Youth Activities: Join us for Stories & Messes on Monday June 17 at 11 a.m., Movie featuring Lego Movie 2 on Wednesday June 20 at 1 p.m., and BINGO on Thursday June 20 at 1 p.m.
Ben’s Bubble Show: Ben’s Bubble Show will be at library on Tuesday, June 25 at 2 p.m. Stop in and see the art, science and touch of magic. Must have a ticket to attend event. Free tickets can be picked up at the library.
