The Chapel on the Green in Yorkville will host its fifth annual Shoe Box Float parade on the Fourth of July.
The theme this year is “The River,” to go along with the program that day on “The Legend of the Fox”, which will be at 1 p.m. in the Chapel.
Shoe Box floats do not need wheels or a tongue to tow vehicle – just the decorated box simulating a hay rack or flatbed trailer.
Floats may be the work of one individual or club, group or organization. Shoe Box Floats need to be brought to the Chapel for parade lineup between 1 and 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, or before 8:30 a.m. Thursday, July 4. There is no entry fee. People’s Choice cash prizes will be awarded.
At 1 p.m., the program will be “The Legend of the Fox” presented by Gary Mechanic, executive director of the Friends of the Fox River in Dundee.
He has a video along with his presentation all about the The Fox’s activities to clean up the river, now 50 years ago. Donations to his organization, “Friends of the Fox,” would be appreciated.
Come view the Shoe Box Float parade, cast your ballot for your favorite float, learn about, “The Legend of the Fox,” and support Boy Scout Troop 40 by buying food and Treasure Breads from its lunch stand.
Kelico Kuilters, who now quilt every Wednesday on the second floor of the Chapel, will have their quilts on display. The Vintage Wedding Dress Museum will be open and the Chapel Cat’s Meow and Chapel Nore cards will be available as mementos of your visit.
Donations will help with the preservation of this historic church building, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.
