AURORA – An Aurora mother is facing murder charges after her 6-month-old son died from injuries that occurred when she allegedly battered him late last week.
Trivea S. Jones, 23, of the 2000 block of Fox Pointe Drive, Aurora, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Kane County prosecutors allege that on the afternoon of June 21, Jones battered her 6-month-old son, causing his death four days later.
First responders were called at about 5 p.m. June 21 to her home in the 2000 block of Fox Pointe Drive regarding an unconscious infant, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office. They arrived to find the child not breathing, the release stated.
They took him to a nearby hospital, where doctors noted severe trauma, including a fractured skull, according to the release. The child was on life support until doctors pronounced him dead on June 25, the release stated.
Kane County prosecutors initially charged Jones with the felony offenses of aggravated battery to a child and aggravated domestic battery. After the child died, prosecutors authorized the murder charges and dismissed the initial case.
Jones admitted to battering the child against a piece of furniture and leaving him unconscious on the floor for some time before asking a neighbor to call 911, according to Aurora police.
Jones is in custody in the Kane County Jail on a $2 million bond. Her next court appearance is set for June 28. If convicted, Jones faces between 20 and 60 years in prison.
