On campus

Northern Illinois University announced its spring 2019 dean’s list students. To earn this distinction, students must meet a minimum semester grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology or a minimum of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale in the colleges of Business, Education, Health and Human Sciences, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Visual and Performing Arts.

Local students were among those honored at Michigan Technological University’s Spring Commencement on May 4.

Nick S. Minarich of Newark earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering.

Rachel L. Strobel of Yorkville earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering.

Abigail Cain of Oswego graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Mississippi on May 11.

Elizabeth Smith, an international studies major from Oswego, earned a diploma from Monmouth College at the 162nd annual commencement exercises May 12.

Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, recently announced that Julia Megazzini of Yorkville was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester of the 2018-19 academic year. The dean’s list recognizes full-time students who have a minimum of 12 credit hours with grade-point averages at 3.5 or above.

Alexis Labath from Montgomery was named to William Woods University’s dean’s list for academic excellence.

Montgomery resident Jessica Contreras and Oswego residents Meghan Carroll, Gretchen Klug and Ethan Torres were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester at Marquette University.

The following students achieved at least a 3.5 GPA for the spring 2019 semester at Monmouth College while taking at least three academic credits: Mackenzie Fletcher from Newark, Angela Capasso from Oswego, Benjamin Dobberstein from Oswego and Rylynn McCaw from Oswego.

Tyler Selvig of Oswego was recently named to the president’s list at The State University of New York at Potsdam.

To achieve the honor of being on the president’s list, each student must have satisfactorily completed 12 numerically-graded semester hours, with a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.

Matthew Cavanaugh of Bristol qualified for the president’s academic honors at Dakota State University for the 2019 spring semester.

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point honored undergraduate students, including Oswego residents Annika Perez and Jacob Smutzer and Plano resident Christopher Schiera, for attaining high grade-point averages during the spring semester of the 2018-19 academic year.

Iowa State University’s largest-ever graduating class (5,248) received degrees during four spring commencement ceremonies May 9 and 11. Local students earning degrees include:

Adeline Boettcher of Oswego, Doctor of Philosophy, molecular cellular and developmental biology.

Christopher Hernandez of Oswego, Bachelor of Science, industrial engineering, summa cum laude.

Christina Origel of Oswego, Bachelor of Science, psychology.

Justin Jeziorski of Yorkville, Bachelor of Science, hospitality management.

Christian Payne of Yorkville was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester at Rockford University.

Local students were named to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester. Those earning this honor include Oswego residents Emily Arenz, Julia Clayton, Megan Grove, Jake Sefranek and Madeline Wyatt along with Montgomery resident Charles Rhoades.

These students have demonstrated their academic abilities by receiving a grade-point average of 3.4 or above in a single semester.

Lizet Zuniga of Montgomery graduated with a degree in international business and marketing, global supply chain management.

Caroline Casillas of Oswego graduated with a degree in management and leadership.

Samuel Kiesewetter of Yorkville graduated with a degree in management and leadership.

Rachel Jesen of Yorkville graduated with a degree in marketing-global supply chain management.

Madison Hranka of Oswego graduated with a degree in nursing.

Jessica Smith of Oswego has earned a spot on the spring 2019 dean’s list at Valdosta State University.

Alyssa Siegfried of Yorkville recently attended Advanced Space Academy at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, home of Space Camp, Space Camp Robotics, Aviation Challenge, U.S. Cyber Camp and NASA Marshall Space Flight Center’s official visitor center. Siegfried spent the week training with a team that flew a simulated space mission to the International Space Station, the moon or Mars. The weeklong educational program promotes science, technology, engineering and math, while training students and with hands-on activities and missions based on teamwork, leadership and problem-solving. This program is specifically designed for trainees who have a passion for space exploration. The crew participated in experiments and successfully completed an extra-vehicular activity, or spacewalk. Siegfried and crew returned to earth in time to graduate with honors.

Morgan Kaufmann of Oswego was named to the spring 2019 dean’s list at the University of Findlay. To earn this achievement, a student must attain a grade-point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Upper Iowa University has announced its 2019 Honors and Awards Scholarship recipients. The honored students included Alyson Carroll of Oswego. Carroll was awarded the Andres Education Scholarship.

Plano residents Tyler Dean Ament and Nicholas Tyler Schiradelly were named to the spring 2019 dean’s list at Kishwaukee College.
