Roundup: Sandwich volleyball seventh at Joliet Central Tournament

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Ava Knepper had 16 assists and Audrey Rome five kills for the Indians (6-6) in a 25-16, 25-15 loss to Newark on Monday. Oliva Tornga added six digs, Cailyn Brummel three kills and Casey Delphey three digs.

Sandwich went 3-2 for seventh place at the 16-team Joliet Central Tournament, with wins over Crete-Monee, Joliet Central and Morris. Jaylynn Vana, who had 20 kills, 26 digs and eight blocks, and Rome, who had 40 kills and 15 blocks, were named to the all-tournament team. Knepper added 88 assists. Sandwich lost to LaSalle-Peru 25-18, 25-16 on Sept. 5. Knepper had 15 assists and six digs and Rome seven kills. Sandwich beat Somonauk 25-16, 27-25 on Sept. 3. Rome had six kills, Vana 5 kills and Knepper 15 assists.

BOYS SOCCER

Sandwich

Streator beat Sandwich 4-0 on Monday. Sead Sejdiu made 15 saves in goal for Sandwich (4-4, 1-1). Sejdiu made 13 saves in a 7-0 loss to Rochelle on Sept. 3.

BOYS GOLF

Sandwich

Sam Dawson and Michael Barbey both shot 51 for the Indians in a 160-217 dual loss to Kaneland on Sept. 3 at Hughes Creek Golf Course.

GIRLS GOLF

Alijah Campbell shot a 48 to earn medalist honors for Sandwich, who shot 208 to beat Hinckley-Big Rock (243) and Rock Falls (246) on Monday at Edgebrook. Jillian Fuchs had a 51, Josie Gonzalez a 52 and Grace Donahue a 57. Gonzalez shot a 49 to earn medalist honors in Sandwich's 208-224 win over South Elgin on Sept. 5 at Edgebrook.
