The Sandwich High School Student Council would like to congratulate Mr. & Mrs. Andy and Deb Heilemeier, the 2019 Homecoming parade grand marshals.
This year's homecoming theme is “Dancing through the Decades.” The parade is set to kickoff at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4.
Deb Heilemeier grew up in Peru, IL, where she attended LaSalle-Peru High School. In high school, she was a member of NHS, Softball, French Club and wrote for the newspaper. Deb has been an English teacher for 25 years and has been an integral member of Sandwich High School for the past 23 years. She is a National Board certified teacher and is the head of the English department. Deb has been a sponsor of SHS yearbook, speech team, the fine arts club and the sponsor for the junior and senior classes. In addition, she has been a coach for the softball and for cross country teams. In her free time, Deb is an award-winning gardener.
Andy Heilemeier grew up in Davis, IL, where he attended Dakota High School. In high school, Andy was on the football, wrestling and track teams. In addition, he was a member of the drama club and was involved in plays and musicals. His favorite high school teacher and mentor, Tom Unruh, helped bring Andy to the Sandwich school district, where he has been for 20 years. Andy taught at Sandwich Middle School for 15 years and was a National Board certified teacher before becoming part of the administration for the past five years. As a teacher, Andy coached football for 10 years, track for 15 years, wrestling for 10 years and sponsored student council for nine years.
The Heilemeiers have been happily married for 18 years and have two children, Jacob and Jackson. They have made Sandwich their forever home and are dedicated to the Sandwich School District and the community, because, for them, it’s “100% about the students.” The Sandwich High School Student Council would like to thank them for their commitment to the district and for their hard work with the high school students.
