Roundup: Newark volleyball wins Little Ten Conference Tournament opener

KJ Friestad had four kills and Mattie Chapman, Madi Malone and Naomi Sweeney each had three for the Norsemen in a 25-1, 25-13 win over Leyland in the Little Ten Conference Tournament Tuesday.

Plano

Anna Gonzalez had five digs, five points and three kills, Alyssa Smith five digs and Kaylee Read four assists and three digs in a 25-6, 25-16 loss to LaSalle-Peru on Tuesday. Grace Stevenson added two kills and three digs. Read had nine assists and two digs, Gonzalez four kills, two blocks, four points and four digs and Stevenson 10 digs, two kills and two points in a 25-10, 25-22 loss to Sycamore on Oct. 3. Julie Adorjan had six points, four of them aces, and Smith 10 digs.

Yorkville

Saige Avery had six kills and three digs, Maddy Bourque nine assists and five digs and Kylie Loquercio three blocks and Anna Flamini eight digs for the Foxes (12-12, 1-5 Southwest Prairie) in a 25-15, 25-19 loss to Joliet West on Tuesday. Janelle Pye-Blacknard had three kills and four digs and Bourque 10 assists and three digs in a 25-10, 25-17 loss to West Aurora on Oct. 3.

BOYS SOCCER

Plano

Leo Amezquita and Vincent Herbig scored goals and Diego Heredia and Alexis Arellano assists in a 7-2 loss to Streator on Tuesday. Hugo Tochimani made 16 saves in goal for Plano (4-19-1, 0-6-1). Plano lost to Sandwich, 0-0 and 4-3 on penalty kicks on Saturday at the Interstate Eight Tournament. Amezquita, Jeffrey Trujillo and Harold Flores all tallied penalty kicks for Plano.

Plano beat Morris in penalty kicks on Oct. 3 after the two teams tied 3-3 in regulation. On the 11th penalty kick Esteven Cervantes made a save and Luis Taca tallied his first career goal for the game-winner.

BOYS GOLF

Plano

Plano’s Patrick Johnson, JJ Dolan and Mason Accidentale each scored a 112 and the Reapers totaled 453 strokes at the Class 2A Sandwich Regional.
