Roundup: Yorkville Christian's Jaden Schutt hits IHSA single-game record 17 3s

BOYS BASKETBALL

Yorkville Christian

Jaden Schutt set an IHSA single-game record with 17 3-pointers, scoring 51 points to lead the Mustangs past University 97-34.

Schutt eclipsed the previous record of 16, a mark according to the IHSA record books set by Sycamore's Andy Thomas in 1993.

Christian Sovern added 22 points and Brayden Long 13, as Yorkville Christian made a school record 24 3-pointers.

Newark

Tanner Kunkel had 19 points and nine rebounds, and the Norsemen scored the first 27 points of the game and went on to an 89-26 win over Leland on a night that Newark inducted John Avery into its Hall of Fame.

Nate Christian added 15 points, four rebounds and four assists. Austin Tollefson added 13 points and Alex Tollefson 10. Jacob Chapman had nine points and 10 assists.

Plano

Griffin Cross had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Cedric Walton added nine points for the Reapers (3-2) in a 51-49 loss to Rock Falls. Chase Chappell scored 18 points for Rock Falls, which outscored Plano 15-10 in the fourth quarter.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Oswego East

Christine Corpuz scored 30 points and broke the 1,000-point career milestone for the Wolves (3-6, 2-2) in a 77-68 loss to Plainfield North. Oswego East led by one at the half, but Plainfield North scored the first seven points of the third quarter and went on to the win. Carly Engelhardt scored a season-high 16 points, Lauren Shea had 12 points and Peyton Finn eight.

WRESTLING

Oswego

The Panthers (6-3, 1-1) beat Plainfield South 39-26. Winners by pin for Oswego included Aidan O'Meara (113), Evan Steinbrecher (120), Zach Sato (138), Cole Pradel (170) and Manny Gonzalez (285).
