Crews with D Construction were finishing up the asphalt on the new Kennedy Road trail in Yorkville Wednesday morning.
The 2.72-mile path will link Route 47 to existing trails near Mill Road just west of Galena Road, near Steven G. Bridge Park.

Crews began work on the trail in July. It will stretch from Route 47 to existing trails near Mill Road.
The project is being paid for through an Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program, or ITEP, grant.
The Yorkville City Council voted in 2012 to accept the $1.3 million grant to pay for the trail's construction, but with the understanding that private donors would raise the city's share of the trail's funding.
The Push for the Path nonprofit organization was formed around that time to help raise money for that local match of $357,000. The organization and its advocacy were influenced by the July 5, 2009 death of Bristol resident Darlene McCue, who was struck by a vehicle as she and her stepdaughter were riding bikes on Kennedy Road.
Following an annual 5K race fundraiser in May, Push for the Path officials announced that the organization had met its fundraising goal.
