But head coach Culumber Ball, now in his ninth year at King, reached out to Plano in the spring.
The Jaguars replaced St. Bede in the Plano field. Eventually, fellow CPS schools Hubbard, Clemente, Crane and Harlan came aboard, two late additions this fall.
"We just wanted something different. I wanted to see what else was out there," Ball said. "I didn't know those other schools were coming. Otherwise I wouldn't have come. I always try to do something different."
Crane, Harlan and Clemente all won first-round games, but the CPS was 0-3 in the quarterfinals.
King gave Central quite a scare, though.
