Newark, which beat Aurora Christian 37-26 during the regular season, never trailed. The Norsemen finally got a handle on things out of halftime.
To no surprise, they did it with defense.
Aurora Christian (19-8) missed its first nine shots of the quarter, and turned it over seven times during the quarter. Newark led 37-29 after three quarters, and eventually extended the margin to 10.
Aurora Christian star guard Tori Henning led all scorers with 16 points, but was just 4-for-20 from the floor with Tomsa and Jocelyn Mitchell rotating coverage. The Eagles, collectively, shot 4-for-23 from 3-point range.
"We knew she was going to shoot the ball," Meggie Scott said of Henning, "and we wanted to deny her as much as possible. When they started to come back we just stepped up our defense."
