Williams, the fourth Foxes' player who has caught this year, last played catcher when he was 11.
He was a courtesy runner last year, and played some JV second base.
"Over the summer, I caught for our summer team," said Williams, a senior. "I guess they liked what they saw. I've kept on working."
Yorkville, yes, is a work in progress.
The Foxes have still mostly won this year, but things unraveled Thursday in a 16-2, six-inning loss to Kaneland.
Yorkville (8-4, 2-1), which had won the first two games of the series, issued 12 walks and committed seven errors. Kaneland (6-4, 1-2) broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth with Jack Douglas' pinch-hit two-run double, then poured things on with an 11-run sixth.
